Annie’sBlankets.org was inspired by a visit to a local vet’s office. A beloved but ailing family dog was
resting on the floor, curled comfortably on a pink crocheted blanket. Later that year, a sick stray cat appeared on
Edie’s doorstep. The old towel Edie used to carry and transport the cat to the vet was left there as a small donation.
Edie thought about the many pets who need temporary shelter like this… and of the blankets that might help them feel at home.

Meet Annie. This gentle German Shepherd, Edie’s beloved family pet, was the namesake for the site. A calm and tolerant dog, Annie enjoyed playing with the three young children in her family and taking long naps in the sun. Edie credits Annie with her lifelong love of dogs.
Meet Phoebe. An Australian Shepherd/lab cross, Phoebe lived a long and full life, filled with years of hiking and playing Frisbee and fetch. As old age finally slowed her down, Phoebe spent many hours recuperating at her local vet’s clinic. Often uneasy in kennels, Phoebe rested on the floor… and the pink crocheted blanket she lay on reassured Edie that Phoebe was comfortable.
Meet Scout. A Blue Heeler mix, Scout spent a month in a Salinas shelter where she was well-cared for until Edie and Doug found her and took her home. Scout, 3 in this photo, is now the proud owner of three pillows, several Frisbees and a basketful of squeaky toys. She hopes many people donate towels or blankets so that other dogs like her will have warm housing until they find permanent homes.
